Dr. Maryam Shaygan, director of Nursing Faculty and Community Based Psychiatric care Research Center, Named National Outstanding Nursing Faculty Director
During a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, Dr. Maryam Shaygan, President of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at Hazrat Fatimah (PBUH) and the director of Community Based Psychiatric Care Research Center, was honored as the National Outstanding Nursing Faculty President.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, the ceremony took place on National Nurses’ Day at the Summit Hall of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Tehran. Dr. Shaygan was awarded a certificate of appreciation by Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Vice President of Iran, in recognition of her outstanding efforts in advancing nursing education.
In her speech as a representative of the nursing community, Dr. Shaygan emphasized the vital role of nurses in the healthcare system, highlighting several critical concerns. One of the key issues she raised was the need for a fair distribution of the 250 defined nursing services in hospitals to the nursing staff. She stressed the importance of addressing both the material and spiritual rights of nurses, particularly acknowledging the significant role and expertise of specialized nurses in the health system.
Dr. Shaygan also highlighted several challenges, including the need for independent nursing practices and decision-making in clinical settings, and the establishment of a professional Doctorate in Nursing in Iran. These, she noted, are key areas that require attention to better support the nursing profession.
